The Ambassador

Minister Alessandro Gaudiano is the Ambassador of Italy to Prague.

He graduated in Political Science from the University of Rome on 17 July 1987 and joined the Italian Diplomatic Service in February 1989.

In 1991, he was appointed First Vice Consul in Berlin, where he was subsequently promoted to First Secretary of Legation and confirmed at post with the functions of Deputy Consul. In 1995, he was appointed First Commercial Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Ottawa.

From 1999, he served at the Tenth Office of the Directorate General for Development Cooperation. In the same year, he was promoted to Counsellor of Legation. During this period, he held positions of increasing responsibility and, in 2000, was appointed Head of the Fifth Office of the Directorate General for Development Cooperation.

In 2004, he returned to Berlin as Counsellor for Emigration and Social Affairs. In the same year, he was promoted to Counsellor of Embassy and subsequently confirmed with the functions of First Counsellor for Emigration and Social Affairs.

In 2008, he returned to the Directorate General for Development Cooperation as Head of the Fifth Office. In January 2011, he was appointed Minister Plenipotentiary and, from March of the same year, also assumed the deputy functions of Deputy Director General / Central Director for the planning and implementation of development cooperation programmes.

From 2012, he served directly under the Director General for Development Cooperation as Head of the Afghanistan, Pakistan and Myanmar Task Force. In 2013, he also assumed responsibility for the Iraq Task Force, while maintaining the deputy functions of the Deputy Director General.

In November 2015, he was assigned to Berlin with the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary. From 1 July 2020, he served as Deputy Director General for the European Union with deputy functions / Central Director for European Countries, a position which, as of 1 January 2022, was redesignated as Deputy Director General for Europe and International Trade Policy / Central Director for European Countries.

As of 2 February 2026, he is the Ambassador of Italy to Prague.
